Why Are My Teeth Moving as An Adult?

Why Are My Teeth Moving as An Adult? A question I hear surprisingly often is:
“My teeth were straight when I was younger. Why are they moving now?”

The short answer is that teeth can continue to move throughout life.

It’s completely normal.

Many people assume that once braces have finished, their teeth stay exactly where they are forever.

Unfortunately, that’s not usually how it works.

Our teeth are constantly exposed to small forces every day. Chewing, grinding, clenching and even natural ageing can gradually influence their position over time.

The lower front teeth are often the first-place people notice changes.

A little bit of crowding appears.

One tooth starts to overlap another.

What was once barely noticeable gradually becomes the first thing they see in the mirror.

I’ve met plenty of patients who tell me they only became aware of it after seeing themselves in a photograph.

Once they noticed it, they couldn’t stop noticing it.

The good news is that modern teeth straightening is very different from what many people imagine.

Invisalign allows us to move teeth gradually using clear removable aligners, making treatment much more discreet than traditional braces.

Not everyone who comes to see me needs treatment.

Sometimes people are reassured that the changes are minor.

Sometimes they decide they’d like to improve things before the crowding worsens.

Every smile is different.

The important thing is understanding your options rather than simply accepting that things will continue to get worse.

I regularly help patients from Haverfordwest, Milford Haven, Fishguard, Tenby, Narberth, Carmarthen and throughout West Wales who have noticed their teeth shifting over time and want to understand what can be done.

In many cases, the solution is far simpler than they expected.

Sometimes all it takes is an honest conversation and a plan.

That’s where every smile transformation starts.
